Bloom

A mindful digital experience for everyday wellness

Bloom

Overview

Bloom is a mental wellness app designed to help users build sustainable mindfulness habits. I led the entire design process from discovery and user research through to a polished, shipped product — working closely with a product manager and two engineers.

The Challenge

Users struggling with mental wellness often abandon apps within the first week. The challenge was to create an experience that felt genuinely supportive — not clinical — and encouraged consistent daily engagement without feeling like another chore on an already overwhelming to-do list.

Process

01 //

Discovery & Research

12 user interviews, competitive analysis of 8 wellness apps, and a 2-week diary study with 20 participants to understand when and why users engaged — or didn't.

02 //

Define & Ideate

Synthesised research into 3 core user archetypes. Ran a 2-day design sprint to explore 40+ concepts, narrowing to 6 for rapid prototyping.

03 //

Design & Prototype

Built a full component library in Figma, designed 80+ screens, and created interactive prototypes for 3 rounds of moderated usability testing.

04 //

Test & Iterate

Conducted usability testing with 8 participants per round. Iterated heavily on navigation structure, onboarding flow, and notification copy based on findings.

Solution

I redesigned the experience around 'micro-moments': tiny, delightful interactions woven into daily routines. The onboarding was completely rebuilt to establish emotional connection before asking for any commitment, and we introduced a Gentle Nudge notification system that users actually welcomed.
